Hi my name is Holly Jade and this is my story and how I became passionate with UX Design. First, for those who may need a little context, UX stands for User Experience.
UX Design is the process of designing delightful interactions between "users" and product. "Product," in this case means the web and mobile apps. It is my goal as a designer to improve the usability, accessibility and overall experience for the end consumer.
Ever since I can remember, I've been passionate about creative problem solving and visual storytelling. When I was little, I was determined to be "an artist," when I grew up. Little did I know, this meant an artist for the web and mobile apps.
I would become a designer, "founder of MINTBOXX," who specializes in "art" i.e. creative problem solving... more specifically, UX Design for software.
In 2010-2013, I studied Technology Leadership & Innovation, where I'd receive a Master's + Bachelor's degree from Purdue University. I was a freelance designer during these years and in my free-"free"-time, I would design solutions to problems around me. I would soon learn, design is meaningless unless you can impact and influence people. I was lucky to understand early in my career, this key of importance to understanding people, their behaviors, and how to spawn behavioral changes via design.
WHO I AM
I am and always have been a curious person. I will ask a hundred questions to find the core of how things run. I believe that to create impact, we need to understand who it is that we're designing for; In other words, we should have the best understanding of people, how they work, and the psychology behind their behaviors.
By the age of 21, I would spend 6,000+ hours (more than 3 years) learning everything I could about people, what spawns behavior, and how "successful" design channels human behavior. I would cold-connect with creatives in industry, crawl research databases, and explore every library under the sun. Rather than a college "drop-out," I would become a "drop-in" and sit in on extra lectures at Stanford and Purdue beyond maxing out the # of courses in which I was allowed to enroll.
I enjoy learning how people work, I'm hungry to understand the answer to the question: "What makes compelling design?" and how to put the two, together. I am dedicated to becoming the very best in the industry and helping those around me, become wildly successful through my work.
From studying literature on psychology, philosophy, neuro-marketing, sales-cognition, and human-centered design, I feel that I have absorbed loads of knowledge which has positioned me as a Full stack "neuro-designer." I make decisions based on science and research in addition to the conventional (and necessary) approach of designing for Empathy and Aspiration.
...While knowledge is great, I believe we need to push past theory. Thus, I have applied the principles learned, in realtime. I would practice what I knew about storytelling and visual design; so far, as to harness a few awards/recognition. But those things are fleeting. I'm most interested in continued learning and helping carve the design path for the next big thing.
My work has been recognized from places like Apple (Apple award 2013), TEDx, Entrepreneur Magazine, and being invited as an honoree to Forbes Under 30. Note: Design solutions in sustainability, particularly, caught the media. However it should be strongly communicated that this the media highlighting a speck of my passion for greater design; I'm a "Full-stack" UX Designer.
WHAT I BELIEVE
Designing solutions to what I felt were novel problems, (things such as designing apps for monetization on food waste) have been very rewarding. However I wish to push past individualistic projects and believe I am meant to serve others with the knowledge and skillset I have gained. I am dedicated to helping people with brand integration and UX design,
I believe that brand story and visual design are critical to a holistic approach of UX. Ceteris paribus, all else being equal - if two products are the same and have the same functionality -- the brand, what that product communicates and the experience it provides is the differentiation point. The brand design and UX are the competitive advantages products, apps, etc.
I help people best communicate their brand through the UX of product and Software Design. I have found myself passionate about designing in the niche area of brand story paired with UX Design.
Oftentimes, tech companies will segment UX Design as something completely separate from brand story. MINTBOXX is different. It is unique, in that brand story is a component of UX Design, rather than something independent. I believe that a software product's user experience is broken if brand and product segmented. Thus, I design experiences that are seamless across both brand and product.
In short, MINTBOXX designs experiences for the web + mobile apps. MINTBOXX aims to bring a fresh perspective and design solutions for the web + mobile apps.
